Do you offer financial aid?

MediaTech Institute's Admissions department is designed to provide assistance with tuition and/or living expenses for those who qualify. As a financial aid student you need to make informed decisions regarding the types and amounts of financial aid available. The Admissions department is staffed and organized with our students' needs in mind, dedicated to making the financial aid process understandable and valuable.

The Admissions Department encourages all applicants who apply for financial aid to begin the process early.

There are three types of financial assistance options available for students. They are as follows: SLM Financial Career Training Loan, Veterans Administration benefits, and the Texas Rehabilitation commission benefits program. You must contact the Veterans Administration and/or the Texas Rehabilitation Commission for eligibility status. Those seeking financial assistance from SLM Financial are required to complete a free application.

SLM Financial, a nonfederal education loan, may have differing origination fees, interest rates, and repayment options. Additional money for living expenses may be obtained trough this loan.

Once the information from SLM Financial has reached our Admissions Department, it will indicate your eligibility for financial assistance. Our admissions Department will contact you regarding your eligibility status.

You may complete your SLM Financial Career Training Loan application prior to submitting an enrollment agreement.

Are there differences between each MediaTech Institute school/location?

Yes. Very much like the recording industry, each of our schools are unique; however, our curriculum is consistent and the students are taught on equipment widely accepted as industry standards. We offer the choice of attending different branches so students will have the opportunity to take our program without having to move too far from their home.

How is the Mediatech Institute program different from other programs that are advertised?

There are really three areas that make our school unique and a great place for learning the art of recording. First, we provide the students with instructors that have worked in the real world in the position that they are teaching. A book can only teach so much, but an instructor that's had the experience and the credits can really supplement the book and show real world situations. Second, if you are going to work in this industry, you don't want to learn on inferior equipment, or equipment that the industry does not use. Mediatech Institute continually stays on the forefront of technology providing students with state-of-the-art equipment. Third, we give students a lot of studio time. You can't learn this profession without a hands-on approach.

Do you have to have a music background, or are there any prerequisites required for starting the Mediatech Institute program?

You do have to have a High School diploma or GED equivalent to be considered for admittance to Mediatech Institute. During registration, you will need to bring proof, in the form of a diploma or transcript. It is not necessary to have a music theory background to enter our program; however, we strongly recommend taking the Producing & Songwriting course. Since an Audio Engineer records bands on a regular basis, it is important to understand music theory and we do a great job of teaching students the fundamentals in the Producing and Songwriting course.

Do you have housing for out-of-town students?

Yes. We offer off-site housing in Houston, Dallas, and Austin. Housing is typically located within two miles of each studio and are offered to our students at reduced rates. The rooms are priced for single occupation and double occupation. Typically, a student starts out with a single occupation room for around two weeks. Then, they meet other students and find a roommate saving money by getting a double occupancy room. For more information and to have your questions answered, please call 866-498-1122 and ask for information on student housing.

Can I record my band as a class project?

Yes. We encourage students to record as many projects as they can and use the studios and equipment as much as possible. It's hard to learn how to run a studio when you are not given the opportunity to get in there and work.
